I’ve become a doom scroller and it’s making me less interested in social media
I took an entire month off of social media back in December 2022, around the same time that the Twitter chaos began. And as such, I’ve bounced around a wide range of platforms (still on them all) but i now just scroll and struggle to engage.
Did I join too many? Do I cut back? Should I focus on rebuilding just one at a time? These are the questions I’m asking myself at the moment, while also wondering whether I should just delete all of the accounts and start again.
But instead, I’m doing the same as I did on Instagram a while back, but with Twitter first.
Unfollowing everyone. That way I keep my previous engagement and existing tweets. However it allows me to restart my feed. Now that we’ve got a For You page, it may show me new accounts that will relate to my type of content and allow me better engagement and more fun again.
The downside is remembering who I want to keep. As such, I’ve created a new list which I’ll add certain accounts to as I run through my follow list.
Then in future, I might even use lists to keep my following smaller for when I want to have a quick scroll and see what certain people are talking about.
For now, it’s a slow process, but real growth should be somewhat slow. I’ll let you know how it goes.
For now, let me know how you’re finding social media at the moment, and whether you’ll be making any changes in future.
