Making the ultimate switch

Last year I made the ultimate tech switch. I left the Android world, and joined iOS with an upgrade through my phone network to the iPhone 12 from a Pixel 3.

Part of the reason was that I’ve been looking at making the switch for a few years, but was so ingrained in the Android world that I just couldn’t do it. Then, last summer I decided to make the jump, and you know what? I love it! I’m genuinely wondering why I didn’t make the switch sooner. It’s so much less laggy, smoother and nicer to use. So much so that I don’t even miss the new features that Android provided.

Looking at the difference between the two, Android seems to be much more an experimental environment. They’re regularly the first with new features and technology, however Apple just seems to be better at taking these features, and improving them so much that “it just works”.

I found apps would freeze much more often on Android for one reason or another, but that just hasn’t happened (yet) on my iPhone. Also, I find myself looking at my phone less. Now I’m not entirely sure why this is, but I think it may be simply because I seem to have more trust that I’m not going to miss something, whereas on my Pixel I also felt that I needed to pick my phone up, whereas now it just disappears into the background and I can focus on whatever task it is I’m working on at the time.

Which is probably why I also find my battery life to have improved immensely, to the point that I regularly finish a day with 60+% battery and don’t feel the need to charge it every day.

In terms of software design as well, I think part of the reason I was more comfortable making the switch this year was simply because I wasn’t a big fan of the new Android 12 design. With everything being made bigger, for no real reason. I was quite happy with the design of Android 11, but also the way Google constantly makes changes to each version of Android has begun to annoy me. Why couldn’t they just leave the design and make improvements, rather than have to make huge changes every time?

Moving forward, I actually don’t see myself going back to Android any time soon. If anything, there’s a bigger chance of me remaining an Apple user, and expanding my Apple products over time. I currently use a Fitbit, but I’m already considering jumping ship and moving to an Apple Watch at some point. I also use SoundCore wireless ear buds occasionally, but again, I’m strongly considering treating myself to some AirPods at some point this year, I’m just not sure which to go for, but we’ll see.

Have you made the switch between Android and iOS in either direction? Let me know in the comments below.
